Our first tank!4403 viewsThis is our first tank. Our family of 10 lives here. However, they just keep growing. A few have even designated certain areas as theirs.

Hermie Club Med4280 viewsThis is the left half of an earlier crabitat that I set up with Playbox white play sand. It gives an example of how the crushed marble sand works in a 60 gallon glass aquarium and with the other accessories and toys in the tank.

My First Crabitat4089 viewsMy first crabitat is a 10 gallon tank with a slide and snap screen lid. It has been modified to include a plexi glass sliding top for control of temperature and humidity. The balcony is made of driftwood and choya wood, lashed together with an all organic gardening twine. There are lots of vine, wood, and shells to crawl upon. I provide both fresh water and salt water from my marine reef tank. I already have the "itch" and am looking for a 40 gallon breeder to move into.

Perhaps why they call them 'Coconut crabs'3782 viewsPhoto of a coconut crab (B. latro) in a coconut shell. Many crabs have difficulty with finding a suitable shell and so choose alternative items to cover their soft abdomens.

Amie's crabitat3297 viewsMy 55 Gallon crabitat
Dimensions of Crabitat: 48"x12" (base) x 19" (height)
Volume of Crabitat: 55 gallon
Description of Substrate: FB mixed with playsand
Description of Tank Items: Netting, fake plants, pools, hidey trees and log, honeysuckle vine, cork bark.
Comments: I just added the playsand yesterday because the FB was getting too compacted by itself. The 16 crabs seem to be enjoying it. I have 5 E's, 2 straws, 3 ruggies and 6 purple pinchers.

My 150 gallon crabitat3030 viewsMy neice cleaned and decorated the tank all by herself. It includes two ocean dishes and two fresh water dishes. There is a small second level in the back corner that holds the empty shells and the bowls it rests on serve as hidey huts. There is a large section of fishnet and a piece of roman architecture. The tank substrate is divided between play sand and forest bedding.

100 gallon tank2781 views100 gallon tank with sand substrate. Several driftwood pieces that the crabs eat and climb on. A shelf with coconut backing covering it and natural fiber ropes for access. We have a salt water bath and dechlo. bath for the crabs. A treat bowl and 2 shells of crab food. Under the shelf is a tub of forest bedding that the crabs often bury in and the ones that have moulted have used the fb. Above the tank we have a moonglow lamp that stays on 24/7.

2746 views remade the tank to include a 'shell changing station' that is a combination of ideas borrowed from other crabbers at this site. Its the small white basket in the bottom left corner. Its supported by some suction cups and is resting on top of a fake stump that i decided looked pretty neat upside down. So far Milton has changed shells and then back into his old one but Donovan is still in his new choice.

2589 viewsThe tank has all the prerequisit needs like a fresh and salt water bowl, food dish(not sure what they are having in this shot, its quite red isnt it though), hyrgometer (which is digital now becuase i cant read analog things, so sad really), therometer for the air and substrate. They have lots of climby things like netting, ivy and driftwood. I also added a background to make them feel a bit more secure, apparently they prefer i dont sneak up on them.

This is the view of the tat from the front. I have a light hood and am currently using a space heater to maintain the proper temps (and it is working quite well too!) I have 2 temp/humidity gauges to ensure the proper ranges are met. I currently have 10 small babies in there!

Sue's crabitat2109 viewsThis is my 40 gallon "Natural Light" tank. I use only a 30watt UVA bulb to supliment sunlight to make up 12 hours in the winter months. I use FB/sand mix for 3/4 of the tank and one end only sand. I recently put up a little bridge where there is a "troll cave" underneath (they like that) and I have a resin tree and cave for them to hide in. I recently took out my large fern (they tore it to shreds) so I have to get a new one. I am keeping moss in a "froggy" urn for now...2 of my E's are buried in it! Planning on eating their way out I guess~ I have 2 pools the larger visible one is for salt water, and a "walk through" fresh water one to the right (but not visible).

CrabKingcom1978 viewsThis unit is made of popular and maple hardwood. It has four levels. Bottom level has two hidding sheds and there are rods to climb to the roofs (second level). From the roofs, you can climb up a ramp to a center balcony area with dowels across to stop any crabs from falling from this level. Two ladders access the roof level which we use to put the crabs back in the habitat. At first I wasn't sure about the ladders, but they seem to love it. And even my handicap crabs can get back down.
